John Estadt

Born and raised in the small, idyllic town of Caldwell, Ohio, John Estadt grew up with strong values shared by many Ohioans: family, common sense, and hard work. He learned the importance of dedication and labor firsthand from his grandfather, Joseph Estadt, a German immigrant and the town blacksmith. His father, a funeral director for over fifty years, inspired John’s commitment to honest public service through his compassion and desire to help those less fortunate. These formative experiences and values have shaped John’s dedication as an attorney.

In 1968, John enrolled at Kent State University and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Following this, he served as the Belmont County Extension Agent for 4-H while attending The Ohio State University, where he earned a Master of Science in Agricultural Education in 1979. He went on to graduate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1983, returning to Caldwell, Ohio, to begin his law practice. In 1984, he joined the law firm of Kinder, Kinder and Hanlon in St. Clairsville, Ohio, and shortly after, became a founding partner and managing attorney at Hanlon, Estadt, McCormick & Schramm Co., LPA. He is a member of both the United States Tax Court and the United States Supreme Court Bar.

John has also made significant contributions to his community, serving as Exalted Ruler and Trustee of the Barnesville Elks Lodge No. 1699 and as a past member and chairman of the Belmont County Family Planning Board. Currently, he serves as President and founding board member of the St. Clairsville Public Library Foundation. His community involvement extends to membership in various organizations, including St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the St. Clairsville Knights of Columbus, Barnesville Elks Lodge, St. Clairsville American Legion Post 159, and the St. Clairsville Eagle Aerie 2541. He is also a past president of the Belmont Hills Country Club.

John, an avid outdoorsman, angler, and golfer, has been married to Patricia Jones for over three decades. Together, they have one daughter, Alicia.
